Chapelwaite review: episodes 1-4 now on Epix

Synopsis: Captain Charles Boone relocates his family of three children to his ancestral home in Maine after his wife dies at sea.

Chapelwaite is a moody atmospheric whodunnit that works in spades. Adrien Brody is a tour-de-force in what seems to be a role he actually cares about a role, something we haven’t seen from him outside of Wes Anderson films in a long time.

While I am much more of a fan of Stephen King’s ‘Salem Lot’ miniseries rather than Chapelwaite overall, it’s a great King adaptation when it comes to recent years in television. We haven’t had a great one since 11.22.23 Castle Rock was also great. In recent memory the King renaissance has been a bumpy road.

The real scene stealer in this series is Schitts Creek alum Emily Hampshire as Rebecca Morgan is a great edition to the cast, after her hilarious turn in Schitts Creek it is fantastic to see her in something much more serious. While this is a slow burn series. Those who stick with it will get rewarded.

Overall grade: 3/5 stars
