Only Murders In The Building review episodes 1-3: now on Hulu

Only Murders in The Building is a tv series you go into expecting a lot from. Not only because of the cast which features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez(in a unique grounded role for her). But also because of the premise of a true crime with dark comedic tones.

Going into Only Murders in the Building I was not sure about Selena Gomez in the mix, with Steve and Martin being old enough to be her grandparents. However, it works. Selena and Steve have such fantastic chemistry with each other it’s a delight whenever they’re on screen together.

Martin Short plays the character you feel sorry for here, and it works to the show’s advantage with him playing it straight and not a lot of comedic lines we’re accustomed to seeing from him. This is where Only Murders in the building gets interesting, a murder happens in the building, and these three characters want to start a podcast with each other, and play hardy boys… So to speak.

While this is a true-crime comedy it is not as dark as the Coen Brothers would make it ala ‘Fargo’ style. This much more user-friendly comedy with dark tones is thrown in perfectly. I for one can not wait for the season to unfold all of its juicy details.

Overall grade for episodes 1-3: 4.5/5 stars
