Laddie: The Man Behind The Movies Review

Alan Ladd Jr., is a name you should know but don’t. He is a legendary Hollywood producer that got a lot of great movies made including Star Wars which was infamous at its time amongst other movie boards at other studios. He even produced a slew of horror classics including Alien, The Omen, and the science fiction classic Blade Runner.

However, what I didn’t like about this documentary it came off as a historical fluff piece about its subject. Which is fine, but it makes movies boring and overstays it’s welcome. You should know this documentary is done by his daughter, so of course it’s going to sentimental.

It does have a lot of cool interviews including Ben Affleck, who without Ladd, we may have not gotten Ben as the director. Sigourney Weaver, Morgan Freeman, Richard Donner, and Ron Howard. It’s cool to see the stars give interviews that’s about it.

In the end, Laddie: The Man Behind The Movies is too sentimental for its own good. Often making it feel like a film a teacher would play in class on a free day in school.

Overall grade: 1/5 stars
