Voyagers is a unique spin on the old tale of Lord of The Flies, while it doesn’t necessarily say that’s it’s source of inspiration. It’s clear to the viewer that it does resemble Lord of The Flies in space. However, that may sound to you and the response from critics has been rotten so far. I’m here to say I quite dug what the filmmaker and the screenwriters did with this tale.
I honestly thought by the trailer I would hate this movie, but the marketing did a great job underselling the film and showing you as less as possible. It is best to go into Voyagers that way and don’t look the idiotic “ending explained” videos on YouTube.
Tye Sheridan shined in his role alone side a wild Fionn Whitehead the only gripe I got with the screenwriters was how the part of Lily-Rose Depp’s character was written and she was held back by the writing. Other than that the cast did a stellar job including a strong extended cameo from Colin Farrell.
If you’re a sucker for science fiction movies like I am, Voyagers is a pleasantly surprising good time at the movies. With the visuals and sound it does deserves to be seen on a giant screen.
