Honeydew review- Elevated horror at its finest

Strange cravings and hallucinations befall a young couple after seeking shelter in the home of an aging farmer and her peculiar son.

Honeydew is one of those rare independent horror films that gets it right in every twist and turn it takes. It’s an extremely bold and elevated horror that isn’t the typical run of the mill jump scare-a-thon that we’ve gotten used to as moviegoers.

This does feature a terrific acting debut from Sawyer Spielberg who just goes for broke in this film and crushes it. There’s also tense acting from Barbara Kingsley who gives a future cult iconic performance as Karen. To know she was mainly a theater actor and this was her first feature film is incredible.

Malin Barr is the real scene stealer here as she has one of the most difficult roles in the film to balance everything around her is sublime to witness. Devereux Milburn was a fantastic choice as the director and the writer got great performances from the whole cast.

Overall grade: 5/5 stars

HONEYDEW will be available On Demand, Digital and DVD on April 13, 2021.
