The Banishing tells the story of the most haunted house in England. In the 1930s, a young reverend, his wife and daughter move into a manor with a horrifying secret.
The Banishing is an interesting attempt at The Turning of The Screw that will be debuting on Shudder. However, like most Shudder exclusive movies this one feels like a glorified lifetime movie for horror fans, and that is not good at all.
If you disliked The Turning or even some of the ones that couldn’t get into The Others even though I personally loved The Others, you will surely hate The Banishing. It doesn’t add anything new on the story that has other better renditions.
The acting is atrocious and it feels more like a play than a feature length film, Sean Harris tries his hardest to elevate the script but it’s dimly written and won’t keep anyone’s attention for long. How I feel about The Banishing is how many horror fans felt about The Haunting at Bly Manor. It just fell really flat.
