Slaxx has a crazy concept involving killer jeans that you have to see to believe. Most may compare this movie to Chopping Mall rightfully so, but while speaking with the writer and director of the film they mentioned that Chopping Mall had no influence on Slaxx.
Slaxx features a powerful performance by two strong female leads while being written and directed by women, it’s one of those movies that’s going to gain a cult following for all the right reasons and another reason it’s going to be a huge hit on Shudder is that it is also produced by a producer of the terrific Turbo Kid.
One of the things I love about reviewing the horror genre, every so often you get a little gem like Slaxx that can feed you deserts while you also are eating vegetables. What I mean by that is that you can have subplots underneath the carnage and action about a film that deals with killer Jeans. In this case the writer really wanted to make a strong point about child labor laws and having children working in cotton fields. It makes sense for a movie like Slaxx to have that subplot whereas if it didn’t Slaxx would be a laughable effort.
The performances from Romane Denis and Sehar Bhojani are just incredible especially Sehar who steals the whole movie from everyone involved with her acting. Romane Denis will breakthrough this year with American audiences with Slaxx and My Salinger Year. She’s a force to be reckoned with for the future.
