Wrong Turn is a reboot with a mixed bag that feels more like the remake of Cabin Fever than being something completely different and it’s own take which I woulda enjoyed a hell of a lot more. Not to say the reboot of Wrong Turn is a misfire it just could’ve told a different story but then again if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
The performances in the original Wrong Turn were far and above the reboot. Though those just coming to the franchise to see the kills will be amused a plenty for they do have some great kill scenes in the reboot and the pacing never struggles as well. It just feels like a stale story line that’s been beating a dead horse repeatedly now for a few entries.
Mike P. Nelson did a good job directing the tension as well as the film but I’d say that’s the huge highlight of Wrong Turn 2021 including the performances from Charlotte Vega and Matthew Modine is just awesome as always, always such a pleasure to see him act. He really carries the reboot as far as it can go.
If you’re looking for a fresh take on what many consider a classic horror among the 2000s I would say to wait for streaming to give it a shot as it doesn’t add anything new that will blow you away.
