Spell is a brilliant new horror film from Paramount Players and starring Omari Hardwick in a tour de force performance where he absolutely owns the screen. I have always been a fan of his, but Spell really showcases his strengths and I don’t think it would have been much different performances wise, I thought Omari was the quarterback of the cast and helped elevate the team immensely.
Most of the time VooDoo in horror movies comes off as stereotypical and off putting, however, in Spell it was used as an advantage and not just what we think gypsy’s might be like in real life or according to myth and legends regarding people who practice VooDoo. The tension in Spell starts off with a bang from the beginning and never let’s go of your nerves and emotions.
If you like your horror movies to get to the point fast and be short and sweet, then I would highly recommend Spell to you as it does all those things and gets a heck of a lot accomplished while doing so. While my biggest gripe with the film is the plot is way too simplistic. Though the atmosphere of the film is fantastic, it doesn’t come without flaws.
