Books of Blood, the new Hulu original film is one I’m glad I held off on writing my review immediately. If I had written after my viewing I think it would’ve been a bad review and not a single good thing is written about the film and the narrative it chose to take.
However, upon sleeping on my thoughts for Books of Blood there is quite a bit of aspect to enjoy from the film, while it is still a somewhat uneven and rushed product that we got instead of a great adaptation. I do believe it is slightly better than the previous movie adaptation we got almost a decade ago.
While the first act is rather tough to sit through and felt like I wasn’t the target demographic of it where it had a lot of ten age angst that I just wasn’t feeling at the time. Near the end of the second and third and final act is where Books of Blood picked up its intensity. While I am not saying it’s a good adaptation of the source material, for me personally, I would’ve preferred it if stuck with the original TV show format, maybe then it would have been a juicier product at the end of the day.
It’s not the worst adaptation that we could’ve gotten from its source material, but it’s definitely in the right direction of what Hulu could possibly do with future Clive Barker properties.
