Rent-A-Pal is an excellent thriller featuring a breakout performance from Brian Folkins who will send shivers down your spine in a hurry and it won’t leave long after the movie ends. Wil Wheaton also gives one of the best performances of his career as the creepy rent-a-pal video guy who helps Brian Folkins’ character find himself.
The tension in this film is so thick you can cut it with a knife and have it for breakfast. I really appreciated the different approach that director Jon Stevenson used for filming Wil Wheaton’s part on a VHS tape and that was a really cool movie and it must have been a real treat to see Wil just go all-in with the creepiness and also be his normal charismatic self.
Rent-A-Pal is a horror movie that we can throw in the time capsule and show generations and generations to come how to really make a great independent horror movie that also works as a character study and we must really give praise to all involved for knocking it out of the park with this one that requires multiple viewings.
