Color Out Of Space Review
Color Out Space is Richard Stanley’s comeback film and also his H.P. Lovecraft masterpiece. For every Re-Animator, there are a ton of awful Lovecraft adaptations. Color Out of Space, however, is a movie that is boosted by having Nicolas Cage in the lead, if this had anyone in the lead I don’t know how it would’ve turned out. This is an Oscar caliber performance from Nicolas Cage even though it won’t ever be considered by the Academy.
The visual effects are nightmare inducing and truly captivating, you wouldn’t expect this from a Richard Stanley(Dust Devil, Hardware) film to look this extraordinary. He really out does himself here and I wouldn’t have it any other way, spectrevision has recently announced they will be doing a Lovecraft trilogy and that Stanley will be doing at least one more.
After talking with Richard Stanley he said Nicolas Cage helped put his faith into filmmaking, I for one am glad they found each other, kind of like how the majority of viewers find the Safdie brothers and Adam Sandler’s union in Uncut Gems is how I feel about Nicolas Cage and Richard Stanley, I hope they keep working together on more Lovecraft adaptations.
