Trick ‘r Treat was released back in 2007, but not widely released until 2009, and fans have been waiting for a sequel ever since. The horror anthology was written and directed by Michael Dougherty and has become an iconic Halloween film.
We have been teased on several different occasions by Dougherty himself saying at one time that Sam would return and then again last year during an interview with Mick Garris of Post Mortem:
“My hope is that once Godzilla has been put to rest that I can dive back into [Trick ‘r Treat 2],” he told Garris. “I would love to finish writing it in post-production [of Godzilla] and then I’d love to make it my next project.“
“But we’ll see,” Dougherty added.
I think we all are eagerly awaiting the return of Sam to see what new Halloween shenanigans will occur. The mythos and the legends that are still awaiting to be explored should be pretty exciting and leave room for even a potential series if they ever decided to take it down that route.
Dougherty has shared in the past where he wants to take the sequel:
“I feel like the first film really just scratched the surface in terms of exploring what really goes on in the shadows of Halloween, and it was, for me, the first film is really just introducing audiences to the notion that, yes, strange creepy magical things do happen on Halloween and here’s a peek behind the curtain, and so, with the next film, we do want to peek behind the curtain more into asking why.”
