Fans have been clamoring for Robert Englund to once again put on the raggedy hat and glove made of knives for years.
And with the growing desire for his return, Englund has steadfastly told fans that while he appreciates the love, he would never reprise the iconic role of Freddy Krueger.
And why should he? After all, there is potentially more to lose then there is to gain. Fans of slasher movies growing up in the 1980s, as well as those who watched the famous films decades later, hold Englund and his portrayal in high regards.
If he signed up to make another movie, the internet would be a buzz. People would be amped. Fans of the Nightmare franchise would mark out. And, the film could make a huge pay day and cement Freddy as the greatest villain of all time.
Then again, what if a movie were to bomb? What sort of criticism would Englund have to listen to? What would be the take away from the latest sequel to fail?
Why are these questions something that fans should consider? Because, even though Englund has said “no” to once again playing the role, Englund did just that on the Halloween episode of “The Goldbergs” which will air on Wednesday, October 24th.
The rumor mill is on high octane and fans of the franchise are really hoping that Mr. Englund gives them at least one final act.
I think they want to reboot the franchise, but they’re gonna need a new actor,” Englund told the show’s hosts. “They’re gonna need a new actor to play Freddy because they’re gonna have to do eight of them. I might have one left in me… but yeah.”
This is what Robert Englund said to someone that asked him if he’ll ever be back as Freddy.
