[Review] Jack Black: A Startling Good Performance

Jack Black has played a significant role in many movies including Shallow Hal, Kung Fu Panda, Nacho Libre, School of Rock, and Jumanji.

His most recent performance in The House with a Clock in Its Walls, however, may be his best role as of yet.

In the film, a young boy, Lewis, moves into his Uncle Jonathan’s – played by Black – house after the death of his parents.

Black does a wonderful job portraying the weird uncle who happens to be a warlock. His character charges himself with keeping evil at bay while learning how to take care of an adolescent who is trying to find his place in the world sans parents and friends.

Although the movie provides a few moments that will startle young viewers, it is Jack’s performance that is most startling.

In a solid family-friendly movie, his role of the quirky, odd, caring, and interesting uncle was played with near perfection.
