Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures will be releasing the sequel to 2017’s campy, yet financially successful, “Happy Death Day” on Valentine’s Day 2019.
The film, entitled “Happy Death Day 2U”, will be written and directed by Christopher Landon.
Although not much has been released about the overall plot of the film, the movie will most likely follow the actions of Tree Gelbman as Jessica Rotherham is slated to return to star in the work.
A sequel to this franchise could pan out to be an interesting, if not entertaining, addition to the horror genre. There are some concerns about how far the sequel will stretch from its predecessor. After all, the first film was horror’s own “Groundhog’s Day” and was generally well received because of this slightly different take on the concept of reliving a day.
Audiences of the genre know that plot holes and inconsistencies in movie universes are bound to take shape. Let’s hope that the sequel at least provides entertainment that doesn’t feel like we have already been there and done that.
