Critically acclaimed producer/director Jordan Peele is in talks to remake 90’s cult classic, Candyman.
The movie was followed by two sequels (which isn’t looked back on as much). The usual talk of a possible remake has been brewing for some time but now it’s gained momentum.
He’s definitely using his producing skills to conjure more projects under his belt, including a new Twlight Zone series. Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions aims to make it’s chance for the remake. Wheather or not Peele will be directing is up in the air.
Candyman is about a murdered spirit who appears in a mirror when you say his name five times. The idea of a black man being lynched and murdered for being a lover of a white woman, in 1890, is something that Peele can definitely use his producing skills for.
Candyman was one of my late father’s favorite horror movies so the fact that it could get a remake is just incredibly special for me. Sometimes remakes can be hit or miss but I think this will be a movie to look out for especially if Jordan Peele is at the helm. Peele’s next movie, Us, will be premiering on March 15, 2019.
