John Turtletaub’s THE MEG will be “opening wide” in theaters this August.
Warner Bros. has just released the Chinese international trailer for MEG. There isn’t a ton of new footage but that shouldn’t keep it from selling any fans of shark films that may have had their doubts on this film being one hell of a ride this summer.
It is currently sitting at a 97% rating for WANTING TO SEE on Rotten Tomatoes.
The trailer has a few extended scenes that were in the previously released trailer including a scene in which a giant squid is seen attacking a deep sea submersible vessel that Bingbing Li’s character is operating. This time we see the megalodon swimming away with the giant squid in its enormous jaws.
The trailer is full of action and prehistoric shark scares and seems to have plenty of humor. The marketing seems to be going for a tongue-in-cheek type action/horror film and from what they’re doing it seems to be working and getting more and more people excited for the film’s release.
Along with the release of the international trailer,a new poster for the film was also released. The caption OPENING WIDE is blasted across the poster,as the prehistoric shark opens its massive jaws underwater. As it rises from the deep, to obviously, swallow a bikini clad victim floating innocently on an inner tube, whole; the poster does present that they’re not taking the film to serious and finding humor in what the film is, a big ass shark taking victims and Jason Statham coming to kung fu that shark’s ass back to prehistoric times. I am sure there is way more to it than that, but either way I am sold and will be sitting in a theater to watch this on the big screen.
