The Shining sequel gets a release date

After the box office success of the Stephen King adaptation IT, Warner Bros has fast tracked Stephen King’s DOCTOR SLEEP.

Doctor Sleep is a direct sequel to Stephen King’s novel, The Shinng. It picks up when the REDRUM kid, Danny Torrance, is in his 40s and dealing with the repercussions of the events that took place in THE SHINING.

Mike Flanagan is set to direct and is currently rewriting a script originally penned by Alicia Goldsmith. Flanagan’s producing partner Trevor Macy will produce along with Vertigo Entertainment’s Jon Berg, and Goldsman is executive producer.

Now with this being a direct sequel to the novel and not the actual film what liberties will be taken place from the novel versus the film is not yet known.


Based on the best selling novel of the same name by Stephen King. The master of horror brings his signature nuance back from the Overlook motel.

Years after the incidents that took place when Danny Torrance was a child, he is now drifting through America in order to shed his fathers alcoholism. Passed down to him in order to forget the events of THE SHINING.
After arriving in a small Massachusetts town, with the aid of a cat he becomes DOCTOR SLEEP.
After an encounter with a young girl who has the most powerful SHINING Danny’s ever seen, he now must face the demons of the past and the present in order to save her from a terrifying evil known as THE TRUE KNOT.
