[EXCLUSIVE] Infamous Horror had an interview with The Mermaid: Lake of the Dead’s director

Last week, we made an article about an upcoming horror movie that is called ‘The Mermaid: Lake of the Dead’. Useless to say it went viral.

Today, Infamous Horror had the chance to talk to the director himself, Svyatoslav Podgaevskiy. Here’s our interview:

Infamous Horror –

How was the processus of writing the movie until shooting?

Svyatoslav:

We have quickly outlined a synopsis and have found investments. But we worked long enough on the scenario.

Infamous Horror:

What was the biggest challenge while filming the movie?

Svyatoslav:

It was very difficult filming underwater. We had to build scenery at the bottom of the swimming pool and to give it the look of a forest lake. In the same place, there was a grave under water where heroes go down – we did nothing of that kind earlier earlier so each step in this direction was for us a new challenge. Underwater, there were divers all the time. It was all controlled, but the risk was still big and I was in constant tension.

Infamous Horror:

Are you planning a sequel?

Svyatoslav:

Everything will depend on his succes. But of course we have tons of ideas for a sequel. We want to make background of the mermaid, to tell how this monster has appeared. Action can happen in the 19th century in a Russian village.

Infamous Horror:

Are you planning an international release?

Svyatoslav:

Yes, of course. The film is already sold to more than 60 countries. Japan, Germany, France, Latin America. As far as I know, now, Kansk are in negotiations with the distributor from the United States. We hope that the movie will appear widely.

Infamous Horror:

Where the idea of the movie come from?

Svyatoslav:

The idea was offered by Natalya Dubowaja, in co-authorship scripted. She brought a little idea about a monster from water who pursues men, forcing them to fall in love with her. All of us were enraptured.

Infamous Horror:

Do you have a favorite part in the movie? (Without giving any spoilers)

Svyatoslav:

I very much like the moment when heroes are locked in the car, and water begins to be gathered from within. The car interior floods even if the car is on the road in the woods. It was difficult to remove – but the fact that it has turned out, very much it is pleasant to me. It seems, still nobody flooded the car from within, all threw it to the lake or the river, and we have made everything on the road.

Infamous Horror:

Do you have a new horror movie in the writing session right now? If so, can we know a little much on it?

Svyatoslav:

Yes. We just now are going to shoot the new film. It is based on national folklore. This film is about the Russian monster from fairy tales, the Baba-yaga. If you remember the movie John Wyk, he had a nickname “Baba-yaga”. Here we have a film just about this Slavic demon. The film is about a boy that is stolen by a wicked witch. Very interesting story. We have only finished the scenario.

Infamous Horror:

How much CGI has been used for the movie?

Svyatoslav:

I am not a great admirer of CGI in the horror films. In the Mermaid, we didn’t use that much CGI. It is principally make-ups.
We rubbed clean cables, enhanced physical effects, but mostly have made everything really, naturally.

The Mermaid: Lake of the Dead is expected to release soon. All details + trailer: https://www.infamoushorrors.com/2018/05/11/the-mermaid-lake-of-the-dead-gets-one-of-a-hell-trailer/
