Are the slashers officially back?

After the era of the Supernatural movies with ghosts, is it time to the slasher genre to make a comeback?

Last year, we were lucky as some of the horror films that were released are slashers. We got Leatherface (released straight to VOD, DVD, Blu-ray), IT with Pennywise, Rings, Cult of Chucky, The ByeBye Man, Happy Death Day & Jeepers Creepers 3. 2017 was a good year, right?

We, unfortunately, got only one huge hit. Of course we’re talking about It. The movie made $327,481,748 on a 35 millions budget. Not bad. It has been certified “Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with an impressive 85% score. The audience score is, at this moment, at 84% which is big for a horror film.

This year is less impressive if we take a look at the list of upcoming slasher movies. We got The Strangers: Prey at Night which we thought the movie was pretty good and Hellraiser : Judgment. If we look ahead, we only have the return of one of the greatest Serial Killer of all time: Michæl Myers.

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, if you didn’t know, Michael Myers returns to Haddonfield one more time. The movie is a straight sequel to the first movie. In this movie, we ignore all of the sequels of Halloween.

Judy Greer, Miles Robbins, Jamie Lee Curtis,Nick Castle stars in Halloween, which comes out October 19. David Gordon Green direct this new film with Blumhouse as production company.

Laurie Strode comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

If Halloween gets one hell of a opening weekend and a great run in theaters, we could expect the return of our favorites serial kilkers. Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees could be the next ones to get a new movie.

I am pretty sure that New Line Cinema, Dimension Films and Paramount Pictures are waiting to see how much money Halloween will make at the Box Office.
